Taking Ground

As Christians the Lord has delegated His authority to us to use against the powers of darkness. Our battle is not with people but with the devil and his cohorts, and make no mistake about it is total spiritual authority over all the ability of the enemy (Luke 10:19). The purpose of Jesus giving us this authority is so we can pull down the strongholds of the enemy no matter where we find them, whether in our own lives, our loved ones lives, in our communities, or in our world.

There is such a great needs in each of our own sphere’s of influence and in our world today for us to as never before to walk in this authority and put the enemy to flight, after all Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (I Jn 3:8) and to give us total victory in every area of our lives. In the book of Ephesians (6:10) the Bible tells us to be “strong in the Lord and in the power of His might,” which literally can be translated ”to be able in the Lord and in the authority of His dominion.” God has made us able in Christ and He has procurred total dominion for us through the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus stripped the devil of the authority he gained through Adam’s transgression and made an open show of him (Col 2:14). The Church is now to start making Jesus’ enemies His footstool.

We have all been encouraged to be “God Chasers” in years past, now I am encouraging us also to be “devil chasers.” By that I mean that we need to take a posture in the spirit that is one of offence when it comes to the enemy and not always just defense. We need to be like the children of Israel and go in and possess the land. Sometimes this envolves us dispossessing the enemies that stand in our way. God has promised us healing and health but we need to drive out the sickness (which can be a demon, not always though) to possess the promise. The devil can bring his oppression in many forms…mental torment, anxiety, fear, poverty, lack, divorce and division in marriages and families, heaviness, overt grief and sorrow… and he needs to be rebuked and dispossessed so you can possess the promise of God. Jesus defeated the devil and took the keys from him but we must go in and enforce the rule of our authority. Jesus said, “these signs shall follow them that believe, they shall cast out devils” (much of the church doesn’t even believe in devils much less casting them out!), (Mark 16:17). The Bible says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the the Holy Ghost and power who went about doing good and healing ALL who were oppressed of the devil for God was with Him,” (Acts 10:38). We need to claim this in our lives and be like Jesus, after all He is in us to will and to do of His good pleasure (Phil 2:13).

Let us become skillful in warfare. I think of David’s mighty men who were so skillful in war, they could fight with their left hands and with their right hands. They were strong and they were experts in what they could do. They are types for us. The Lord is looking for the church to rise up, put on the whole armour of God, and to become experts (through Jesus) at demolishing strongholds. The gates of hell will not prevail against the Church and the Church being the seed of Abraham possesses the gate of their enemies (Gen 22:17). Let us go forth in victory Church, the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty (miraculously capable) through God to (for the express purpose) of pulling down (demolishing) strongholds (II Cor 10:4); though we walk in the flesh we do not war according to the flesh (II Cor 10:3). Your battle is in the spirit and your victory is in the spirit. Get your mind in line with the Word and use your authority in Christ and you will enjoy the benefits.
